How the test works
Choose one of four English answers for each question. If you are unsure, use “I don’t know” instead of guessing. You can go back and change answers until you finish. The questions become more demanding as you go.
The scoring is a preliminary rule-based heuristic, not a calibrated CEFR scale. Each difficulty block has a 70% threshold, rounded up. The estimate follows consecutive passed blocks from A1. Being one answer short of the next threshold can produce a range. Passing a harder block after missing an earlier one produces a mixed profile.
What this result can tell you
Use it to choose what to practise next. Fifty multiple-choice questions sample recognition of grammar and vocabulary. They do not measure your speaking, listening, pronunciation or ability to write a connected text. Prior exposure and guessing can influence the result.
Understanding A1 to C2
- A1: familiar words and simple everyday structures.
- A2: routine situations and common expressions.
- B1: everyday topics and connected ideas.

Frequently asked questions
Is this English level test free?
Yes. All 50 questions, your result and answer explanations are free. You do not need an account to take the test.
Will I receive a CEFR certificate?
No. The result is an approximate grammar and vocabulary estimate. It is not an official CEFR certificate or a substitute for a full language exam.
Can I pause and come back?
The same browser tab can restore your progress when session storage is available. Closing the tab can remove the saved test. Sign in after finishing to save your result to your account.
Why can the result be a range or a mixed profile?
A score close to the next block threshold can suggest a range. Inconsistent answers across difficulty blocks are shown as a mixed profile instead of a single level.
